Weetabix, Nutritious but Non-Filling Whole-Grain Cereal

Weetabix whole-grain cereal

Weetabix is a cereal said to provide children and adults alike with great amounts of fibre as it contains 3.8g per portion. The cereal is low in calories and has multiple health benefits.

Eating Weetabix for breakfast or dinner is said to cut the risk of dying early because eating Weetabix original prevents the risk of dying from heart disease, diabetes and cancer. This is because the cereal contains vitamin C and iron. Iron being an antioxidant protects against cell damage.

Weetabix is a nutrition-packed tasty cereal made with whole grain and vitamins to help set you up to take on the day or to rest better at night. It is 100% wholegrain, high in fibre, low in sugar, salt and fat. It helps to regulate the blood sugar levels in the digestive system which is very important for diabetic patients and helps maintain healthy cells and prevent damaged cells from multiplying which is good for avoiding or managing cancer.

Research around the Lagos mainland shows that the availability of the product on the mainland is poor and the price is a bit on the high side.

Consumers appreciate the product and refer to it as being very nutritious.
Weetabix is mostly taken by diabetic and cancer patients but it is also a cereal that can be consumed by everyone with or without an illness.

Weetabix is light and not filling when consumed. It digests easily and fast, such that diabetic patients get hungry again 2-3 hours after taking the cereal. Some consumers went further to say that the taste of this cereal isn’t too nice but manageable.

When speaking to a woman managing diabetes Mrs. Obiaranma Arinze (from Ikorodu) she says ‘’it doesn’t have taste, I mix it with only water so it looks like cornflakes before I eat it, it doesn’t fill me up but I do not eat it to be full but to just have something in my stomach that won’t increase my sugar, and by the time I check my blood sugar the next morning, it reads normal.’’

Diabetes symptoms can be so mild that they are hard to spot at first. The immune system attacks and destroys cells in the pancreas where insulin is made although it is unclear what causes the attack. The body then becomes resistant to insulin, and sugar builds up in the blood. Let it be clear that what you eat matters when you are building a healthy life.
