The Osun State University is set to confer honorary degrees to four notable Nigerians, in recognition of their remarkable and innovative contribution to the educational system in Nigeria.
The Osun State University is set to honour the former governor of the State, and presently the Minister of Interior Mr. Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola; Founder and Chairman of Zenith Bank Plc, Mr. Jim Ovia; the Chief Executive Officer of the Nike Centre for Arts and Culture, Mrs. Adenike Monica Okundaye and the Chairman of Bi-Courtney group of companies Dr. Wale Babalakin SAN, OFR.
The honour is in recognition of their contribution to the development of education in the country. An honorary degree will be conferred on each of the recipients during the 8th convocation ceremony of the school holding on Saturday 21st September, 2019 at the campus auditorium.
The Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo SAN, GCON, is also expected to deliver a convocation lecture titled “Six Decades of Chequered Nationhood; Nigeria still holds the key to Africa’s development”, at the event.
Among those to be honoured are 1,814 graduating students, out of which 49 will be graduating with first class.
The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor ‘Labode Popoola, says he is committed to positioning the school as a unique citadel of learning that is committed to the pursuit of academic excellence, innovation, research and community services.
He cited the school’s recent establishment of the Global Affairs and Sustainable Development Institute (GASDI) as an indication of its focus on sustainable development in ways that enable communities.
