The Consortium Director of the Federation of Construction Industry (FOCI) in Nigeria, Mr. Fidelis Imoisili, has said none of the buildings developed or supervised by its members in the country got damaged.
Imoisili said this at the 6th edition of the Building Machinery Exhibition (BUILDMACEX 2019) which is ongoing at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The FOCI director who asserted that the major reason buildings collapse is because of inferior or substandard materials used during construction, said the body’s major concern is the safety of people.
“Building collapse is a result of substandard materials used by some unscrupulous contractors while building. But at FOCI, we have construction laws that guide our activities, and we are very particular about good structures and safety of the people,” he said.
Imoisili also added that how to have a collapse-free building in Nigeria is now top of FOCI’s agenda.
Earlier, the Managing Director of Atlantic Exhibition (the event organiser), Paul Olugbade, while speaking, said the 2019 edition of BUILDMACEX is unique for its Business to Business (B2B) matchmaking feature. He disclosed that the event is envisaged to promote interaction of participants with products and services to maximize business opportunities and partnerships.
Olugbade added that registered participants will have direct access to the B2B event and will be able to directly book meetings with prospective clients.
